Jeff W Hand, Prof.

Professor Jeff W Hand is Director of the Radiological Sciences Unit at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London and Professor of Imaging Physics at Imperial College London. He has received DSc and PhD degrees from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and has held research posts at the UK Medical Research Council's Cyclotron Unit, London, at Stanford University and the University of Arizona in the USA, and at Shimane Medical University at Izumo in Japan. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine. He is also a registered Clinical Scientist. He has worked on therapeutic and diagnostic applications of non-ionising radiations in medicine, including the modeling of MRI devices and safety related problems, for 33 years and has authored some 200 scientific papers in journals and books. Amongst his professional activities he is an external adviser to the UK's Health Protection Agency regarding aspects of MR Safety, a member of a working group that advises the UK Government's Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills regarding Physical Metrology at the National Physical Laboratory, and is currently a member of Council of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine.
